Every week on Karl Lake meets I will present an interview with the finest of the fashion, entertainment and modelling industry. This week is the turn of Rachael Williams – an internationally known model and founder of We Girls Rock. I caught up with her to find out a little bit more about her…
Hi Rachael , how are you today?
I am very well thank you. I’m smiling as the weather has been great these past few days and I’m excited for summer!!
Whats your general view on the uk fashion industry?
The UK fashion Industry… it’s very competitive and the door opens every so often for new faces to enter.
Who are your biggest influences?
Michelle Obama I love her energy and positivity. She is so strong and powerful and yet still remains to be very ladylike and feminine. She is my Role Model and I hope to be in her position at some point!! Presidents WIFE hahahaha
Whats the best bit of advice you would give an upcoming model?
1. Save your money.
2. Don’t expect every modelling job.
3. Don’t do too much too soon as it could hinder your career in the future.
Who are your favourite uk models at the moment (the next Rachael williams)?
Its very strange as I don’t really follow the modelling scene so I don’t keep track of models, but there could never be ‘the next me’ as I’m still yet to succeed! Models I admire are Saffi Karina (Beautiful, humble commercial model) and a good friend of mine and of course Naomi Campbell as I admire her ability to remain at the top for so many years!
Who is your favourite designer? And photographer?
A cross between Chanel and Dior. I am a huge fan of French fashion. I love neat, feminine clothing and cute bags. And this is a combination of the two. I don’t have a favourite one. I love anyone who can capture strong constrasts and show different textures! I would love to photograph or even draw views taken from above like Sunsets…
Have you ever googled yourself?
Hahahaha, yes I have. I like to see what people write about me and to see where pictures end up!! Its so strange seeing myself of blog sites, websites etc! My parents do it too and they get so excited when they see reviews on me! Lol
Tell us about we girls rock ?
We Girls Rock is a new London based organisation that offers taster courses in Fashion, Sports, Businesd and Education to girls aged 13+. When I started my modelling career i had no guidance and no insight into the Modelling industry. I had to learn and grow by myself. At WGR we aim to give young women an insight into many career fields and show them that there are many options for them to choose from. All of our courses are fun but yet very educational. We had L’Oreal (Mizani) teach our Hairdressing Course and the girls and the teachers had such an uplifting experience.
Would you call yourself a diva?
Noooooooooo! But I no what I want and what I deserve!
What’s the best and worse thing about being a model ?
Best Thing: Travelling. Meeting New People. Free Clothes, Jewellery. No Routine. Freedom to choose when you work. The PAY of course. As you can see there are many great things! Worst: Shooting in the Cold. Shooting in the Heat. Walking in Small shoes. Painful Hair Styles! Lol those are all the worst!!
Define yourself in three words?
Spontaneous
Hard Working (2 words, but I’m hard and I’m working lol)
Feminine
